Thinking Inside the Box

This project forced me to think inward on my own identity. The only requirement for this project was to use a box; the rest was up to my own creativity. As someone who loves music (specifically 60s-80s), I used a basic wooden latch box to create a turntable. In order to get an old-fashion car style, I covered my box with blue sparkly spray paint. I cut and bent pieces of cardboard and straws for the other elements included in a turntable, and used hot glue as my adhesive. I then painted CDs black and used them to represent records, each with their own hand-written design to represent an aspect of my identity.

"Golden Oldies" - I've been called an “old soul” due to my love of oldies music, especially the 60's.

"It's a Wonderful Life" - This is the title of a movie that my family watches every year during Christmas time. It’s a nice reminder to look at the positive things in life.

"MJ Rell" - I love ice cream! This is the name of my favorite ice cream flavor at the best ice cream place near my hometown in CT.

"The Art of Whimsical Lettering" - If I were going to be a book, this would be the title. I love calligraphy and hand-lettering.

"Hakuna Matata" - I love Disney!

"Chosen One" - I was adopted from China when I was 2 1/2. My original Chinese name, Xuǎn, translates to "the one who is chosen."

"Work Hard, Play Hard" - I’ve been an athlete my whole life, and this is a common phrase used to inspire people to never give up.

"I'll Be There For You" - My favorite TV show is FRIENDS
