Dare To Be Different

Growing up as an adoptee from China, I was always reminded that I was different. In words of comfort during my high school years, my mother would say “dare to be different; learn to appreciate how unique you are.” When I think of unique, I think of bright, flashy colors. To compliment my mother’s quote, I thought of a tropical bird with bright colors and unique designs. This project is a re-design of my original sketch back in early 2013, and a good exercise for working with my iPad.

Re-Design

This is a re-design from a sketch I did in the early 2010s. I used my iPad Pro and Procreate to re-draw the bird and its unique designs. While I love tedious, whimsical designs like this, it was a challenge evenly distributing the colors in my palette; placing the vibrant colors as needed.
